| I went shopping for furniture today for just one piece. I wanted to get a low "bench" for my bedroom, to place on a wall that has a large, low window. My taste runs toward contemporary/modern, low and sleek.I was hoping to get something that was upholstered in white or off white, to match the carpeting in my bedroom.While browsing, I saw a number of items that were tagged as "distressed" and it "distressed" me. For a mere $899. I could buy a bench that looked like someone put it on the curb for garbage. The size was perfect ... eight feet long. It was nothing more than a wood bench that looked like its paint was peeling off. It was something that I WOULD put out for trash collection.What's the obsession with "distressed" furniture at a price that is equally distressing? I swear that if I looked hard enough I could find something similar at Goodwill or at any other "used" furniture place.Needless to say, I came home “benchless.”Are you obsessed with "distressed" furniture, or for that matter, "Tuscany" inspired ... which has become so old?Or, are you the type of person who likes Early American or another style that at least LOOKS like NEW furniture?The... |
